The above is called an opaque projector. I will start off by saying that Michelangelo (the famous artist) even used a projector for his artwork. This is hands down one of the most important steps in your airbrush career.  I have been airbrushing for 20 years and I had never even heard that artists were using this thing until my 2nd year into airbrushing. Here's what it does......you can take any wallet to postcard size image and it will transfer it in full color to a wall, car hood, leather jacket, piece of glass, signboard, etc. If anyone tells you it’s cheating then let them say that, because your first and foremost concern is to make money. It is my  belief that people can actually learn to draw with projectors, not to mention when you are doing murals-this is definately a critical point in reducing your labor.

What is even more fascinating in my experience of teaching close to 13 years : THE ARTISTS ARE NOT ALWAYS the ones that do well at this skill... mechanics, lawyers, accountants, carpenters(anyone who seems to have fairly good tedium and attention to detail), usually set just as good of a standard as the "artists". Good airbrushing is far more a result of excellent craftsmanship than it is random artistic talent.  In 1991, I paid $69 for my projector and have made alot of money painting car hoods, jackets, t-shirts, signs, glass, furniture and much more. The projector pulls alot of people into this field who have a drawing phobia* or neurosis of basic artistic composition. It is my professional opinion that people should get a projector even before they purchase an airbrush. Projectors can be bought for as low as $64 (just like the one above).

You do not need a real expensive projector in the inception of learning this skill. The one above is perfect for most of your needs. This piece of equipment is where your airbrush career will start. If you can project imagery, then you have a sign-shop, a transfer machine for murals, t-shirts and on and on.  I have no clue why this secret has not been more exposed to the world of artists and academia, but it is a detriment to the production side of this artform.
